The Initiatives, an agenda-setting college of former and serving National Assembly members has appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National
Working Committee to, as a matter of fairness, zone the Senate presidency to the South-South geopolitical zone of the country.
Speaking at a world press conference on Thursday in Abuja, the Dean of The Initiatives, Rt Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, said the legislature is a quality institution that requires the leadership of individuals with expertise and pedigree. Noting that the APC Muslim/Muslim ticket for the presidency has continued to generate controversies, Eyiboh avowed that it will be unfair for only one religion to occupy the topmost positions in a country like Nigeria.
According to Eyiboh: “While we all are canvassing that the Senate President should go to the South, I hasten to say that it shouldn’t be a case of an aircraft that has lost contact with the control tower. We are saying that the position should be micro-zoned to the South-South.”
