He alleged that some foreign elements were suspected to be part of the conspiracy by using Boko Haram to destroy the country. Buhari, who overthrew an elected president in a coup d'etat on December 31, 1983, lamented, “it is unfortunate that Boko Haram stopped the country from tapping its resources in Lake Chad Basin. We have shown Nigerians and the rest of the world that we have so many natural resources."He recalled how Boko Haram insurgents took over the control of 17 Local Government Areas in Borno State out of the 27 local governments.“Half of Yobe State was in the hands of Boko Haram.
