Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has made a revelation about the intrigues between former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, and MKO Abiola that led to the annulment of the 1993 presidential election. Seun Kuti claimed that a fight over money between Babangida and Abiola led to the annulment of the election.
Abiola had contested the 1993 presidential election under the Social Democratic Party, SDP. While Abiola was the clear favourite to win the election, IBB annulled the poll. Following the annulment, Abiola was arrested and jailed. However, Kuti, in an Instagram Live said: 'When Yomi Johnson killed Samuel Doe, he ran to Nigeria. Doe was supported to come to Nigeria then.
'There were rumors back then that Samuel Doe's money caused a fight between IBB and Abiola, this made the former Head of State refuse to give him the presidency.' Seun Kuti also disclosed that Dele Giwa was killed because he was planning to expose a wealthy Nigerian drug dealer. He added: 'It was alleged that Dele Giwa was about to expose a big man in Nigeria for selling drugs. The best hard drugs in this Lagos are sold in Island, children of the rich are selling it.
