A coalition of newly elected lawmakers of the minority parties has set up a committee to produce consensus candidates for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from their ranks.
“Our position is further buoyed by our dominant numerical strength, which by parliamentary ethos, precedent and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, allows us to contest the Presiding Officers position. Mr Mutu is to be deputised by Abdulmumini Jibrin, a member-elect on the platform of the NNPP from Kano while Mr Ogene will serve as the secretary.
