Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has described the late Towulade of Akinale, Oba Femi Ogunleye, as a great leader who lived an eventful life and put his community on the world map during his reign. Oba Ogunleye, one of Nigeria’s topmost journalists, died in the United Kingdom on Wednesday at the age of 79.
Abiodun , in a condolence message to the Ogun State Council of Obas and Akinale community, said the late monarch contributed his quota to the development of Ogun State after an illustrious career as a journalist. 'It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Oba Femi Ogun leye, a revered journalist and traditional ruler who passed away in London on Wednesday at the age of 79.
'May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations,' the statement said. Also, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo in his condolence message by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, expressed shock over the passing of the monarch. Obasanjo, currently in South Africa for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s second-term inauguration, recounted how Oba Ogunleye had informed him of his travel plans just weeks earlier when he was in high spirits.
