Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi state, was granted bail by a FCT high court in Maitama. He faces charges of alleged money laundering.
Yahaya Bello , former governor of Kogi state, was granted bail by a federal capital territory (FCT) high court in Maitama. The court set the bail at N500 million with three sureties, each possessing landed properties in specific areas of the FCT. The sureties must also provide two passport photographs and other identification documents like their National Identification Number (NIN).
Bello is facing a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of N80 billion in a separate federal high court case in Abuja. In the FCT court, Bello, along with co-defendants Umar Shoaib Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, was arraigned on a 16-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of N110 billion. The court previously declined Bello's bail request on the grounds of premature filing and adjourned the case to January 29 and 30; February 25 and 27. The defense counsel, Joseph Daudu, informed the court that they had filed a further affidavit, which was subsequently withdrawn. The court then granted bail to Bello, varying the bail conditions for the other defendants
