A more typical Summer pattern returns as we move into August.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Our wetter-than-usual pattern continues across Alabama for at least the next few days. The work week begins with a continuation of the wet weekend pattern. We expect a decent coverage of scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It won’t rain all day and it won’t rain on everyone, but more of us will have rain than not. Amounts will vary wildly from one town to the next, but we’ll average around an inch of rain in most spots over the week ahead.
Out-the-door this morning, there are plenty of clouds along with patchy fog and light sprinkles. The humid factor is high and will remain that way through the day. Highs this afternoon will top out in the lower 90s with heat index values near or above 100 degrees. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and winds will be west around 5 mph. Scattered showers and storms will be possible today, lingering into tonight. Lows will hover in the 70s with plenty of clouds around.
The final days of July will continue to feature above average rain chances, humid conditions and sun and clouds. Highs to end the month will remain in the 90s with lows in the 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday both feature similar weather to what we are expecting today and what we experienced this past weekend.
As we transition into August, the weather pattern will also start to shift back to a typical summer-time pattern. Each day will feature highs in the 90s with plenty of humidity. Heat index values will remain in 100s, close to or slightly above heat advisory criteria. Rain chances will become more limited to isolated in nature, as high pressure tries to build across the south. Lows will hover in the 70s under partly cloudy conditions.
In the tropics, a cluster of storms in the central Atlantic Ocean shows potential for development over the next five to seven days. It will move in the general direction of the Bahamas and/or Florida by the end of the week and into the first weekend of August.
