FG partners IOM on protection of vulnerable migrants | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News

To boost the capacity of relevant stakeholders working to protect migrants in vulnerable situations, the federal ministry of Women’s Affairs and the United Nations, (UN), and the International Organization of Migration, (IOM), have agreed to work together to fashion sustainable solutions to the issue.

Under the Cooperation on Migration and Partnerships, the duo seeks to review and validate the Best Interest Procedures, , and Guideline for Migrants in vulnerable situations to achieve sustainable solutions initiative , the review will be conducted.

A communique signed by the Director of Communication and Press and Public Affairs, Olujimi Oyetomi, contains that the validation exercise which is being held in Port Harcourt, River state and is expected to last for four days, will focus on building stakeholder capacity using the blueprint of Best Interests Assessment , Process Planning and the Best Interests Determination services for vulnerable migrants.

“Recall that Nigeria among other countries that have been assailed with issues of vulnerability including women, children and older persons in of need assistance in one form or the other. To resolve the situation, a guideline was developed on how to resolve their situations before it escalates to unmanageable proportions such as deprivations, depression, mental ill-health and in extreme cases, death,” the statement reads.
