He had been in a minimum-security prison in Pennsylvania, where his lawyers said he suffered from high blood pressure and respiratory problems, making him more vulnerable to COVID-19. Manafort was one of 2,471 inmates from the federal prison system that have been released to home confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic, out of a total of about 150,000 total federal prisoners.Manafort was one of six former Trump campaign aides or advisors who were convicted or pleaded guilty in the investigation into Russian interference and possible collusion in the 2016 election.
