Many Nigerians are yet to fully accept. But the truth is: Eric Chelle is the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, took the decision to hire the 47-year-old following several high-level meetings and consultations. Chelle, who is a Malian, becomes the first non-Nigerian African to coach the Super Eagles.
He first came to the attention of Nigerian football fans last year when he led Mali to their first win over the three-time African champions in 50 years. Chelle replaces Finidi George who was in charge of that March 2024 friendly. An official statement said: 'The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has endorsed the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the appointment of Mr.
' needed someone with a bit more experience, especially given the perilous situation in World Cup qualifying. 'Chelle showed with Mali that he has ability as a coach. But there is so little margin for error now that an appointment like his seems almost careless. ' bothers me a lot less than his relative lack of experience, if I'm honest. 'As a coach, I rate his work, what little of it I've seen. 'So him being Malian is not a major concern for me,' Chukwu said.
