The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Eric Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles, tasked with guiding the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Eric Chelle has been appointed as the new head coach of the Nigeria n Super Eagles . The 47-year-old Frenchman was recommended for the position by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical and development sub-committee and his appointment was approved by the executive committee. Chelle previously led the Malian national team to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON ) in Cote d'Ivoire.
Before taking the Mali job in 2022, he primarily managed clubs in lower divisions of French football. As a player, Chelle represented Mali five times and played for several French clubs. His first task as Super Eagles coach is to lead the team to victory in the next round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March. Nigeria currently sits in fifth place in Group C of the qualifiers with no wins after four games
