The team has been searching for a permanent manager since Finidi George stepped down in June 2024. Pinnick states that the NFF is close to appointing a reputable coach and a supporting coaching crew, emphasizing that the selection process considers both financial resources and the coach's qualifications.
Amaju Pinnick, former president of the Nigeria Football Federation , says the Super Eagles will get an “enterprising” head coach ahead of the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Austine Eguavoen was named interim coach, and he successfully guided the team through the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. He added that the federation will also name “a team of coaching crew” to support the individual upon appointment.
