Vandalism of critical transmission infrastructure in Abuja, Nigeria, has resulted in a significant disruption of electricity supply to several areas of the city, including Maitama, Wuse, and parts of the Presidential Villa.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported the vandalism of underground electricity cables in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulting in a significant disruption of power supply to several areas of Abuja . The vandals targeted a 132kv transmission line and underground cable responsible for transmitting a large portion of electricity to the 132kv Central Area transmission substation in Katampe.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the TCN's public affairs manager, the attack affected eight distribution feeders serving the Central Area of the FCT, leading to a 60 percent reduction in electricity supply.Mbah stated that the vandalism, suspected to have been carried out by unknown individuals near Millennium Park in Abuja, involved the theft of 40 meters of 1x500mm conductor from two 132kv transmission lines. The incident has impacted power supply to several prominent areas of Abuja, including Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and part of the Presidential Villa. The TCN is actively working to restore power to the affected areas and has appealed to residents of Abuja to remain patient.
