The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested the owner of A1 Pure Water situated behind 132KVA in Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti for operating unlawfully and producing unhealthy sachet water generated from a well.
Confirming the arrest, the public Relations officer of the Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, said the arrest was based on a report by officials of the Ministry of Environment. It was revealed that the factory had been operating without the necessary permits and licenses, rendering its operations illegal. The Ekiti State Ministry of Environment had sealed off the factory, saying the water used for the production of the sachet water was from an abandoned well.
Speaking with journalists, the leader of the team that sealed off the factory, Samuel Adebayo, explained that such unwholesome practice could cause an epidemic, hence the need for urgent action. According to him, the water factory was found to have violated several standards and requirements set for sachet water production and poses risk to public health.
