To raise the standard of those admitted into faculty of education, the government has been called upon to review admission requirement for students studying education courses
To raise the standard of those admitted into the faculty of education, the government has been called upon to review admission requirement for students studying education courses, as those mostly admitted are students with no interest in education or did not meet admission requirement in other courses.
The Proprietor, De Joyland School, Abimbola Osagie, who made the observation at the school’s 7th graduation ceremony, said: “In Nigeria, it is those that did not meet admission requirements or fit into professional courses that are pushed into departments of education, which shouldn’t be.”She stressed the delicate role of teachers, as the fate of a nation is in their hands, adding that the quality of education available in a country determines the level of development it experiences.
Osagie stated that completion of grade six is made compulsory for every child. She wanted support for private schools from the government, noting that despite the number of private and public schools; there are still a lot of out-of-school children.“We have a lot of children that have been written off by other schools. When they get to our school, we work on them. We are particular about the improvement in a child’s academics, talent, and skills, especially relevant skills.
Headmistress, De Joyland School, Comfort Oguntamoni, said she experienced career growth working in the school through its series of training, especially in technology. She called for a greater focus on technology and skills acquisition programmes in Nigeria’s educational system.
