The Edo State Government has expressed its sorrow over the death of one of its firefighters who was trapped in a collapsed building last week while battling a blaze. The incident occurred in the Evbuotubu neighborhood of Benin City, the state capital. Two firefighters were caught in the rubble as the building collapsed during firefighting operations. Governor Monday Okpebholo conveyed his condolences to the deceased's family during a visit, represented by Dr.
Anthony Okungbowa, the State Head of Service. The fallen firefighter was identified as Andrew Omotor, a 45-year-old dedicated to his service. He leaves behind a grieving family, including an elderly mother, a wife, and six children who are struggling to cope with the loss of their provider. Governor Okpebholo lauded Omotor's bravery, dedication, and selflessness in serving the state. He emphasized that the firefighter perished in the line of duty while responding to a distress call. Another firefighter involved in the incident sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Governor Okpebholo stated that the state government is deeply affected by this tragedy and has pledged to provide full support to Omotor's family during this difficult time.
