Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Wednesday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) is making efforts to minimize human trafficking cases in the country.
“The DOJ is the chair…is the lead agency of an inter-agency committee created by law and that’s the anti-human trafficking committee or council. Very, very active yang inter-agency council na ‘yan and it has done a lot of things in terms of apprehending people na may kinalaman sa human trafficking,” Guevarra said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
Guevarra also said that the Department of Labor and Employment , together with its attached agencies like the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration should be more strict on Filipinos working abroad. “Talagang kailangan maghigpit at on the part naman ng Department of Justice, again through the Bureau of Immigration , to make sure na human trafficking is reduced if not totally eliminated,” he said.
“Kasi maraming nangyayari diyan nakakarating doon sa mga lugar na yon because of some collusion, some illegal arrangements, so that’s what we call human trafficking” he added.
