Visually impaired teachers recruited by Adegboyega Oyetola, former governor of Osun state, have begged to be reinstated after their appointments were nullified by Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor, as part of an executive order.
The teachers, who are members of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, are pleading with Adeleke to rescind the executive order. Before leaving office, Oyetola employed 1,500 teachers in November 2022, into the state’s public primary and secondary schools. The teachers who are about 61 in number, implored the governor to employ more of their members who are graduates and qualified to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the concerned teachers, Sunday Adedeji, one of the leaders of the association, said the disengagement of the teachers has worsened their living standards. Adedeji made the plea during this year’s white cane safety day, which held at the School for the Special Needs, in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday.“We want to beg our amiable governor, senator Ademola Adeleke, to show mercy and reinstate our members who were part of the teachers sacked when he assumed office,” he said.
