A Catholic priest from Nsukka Diocese, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Benedict Ugwuanyi, has called for the implementation of civil sanctions against child abusers in the country.
In a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, the cleric emphasised the need to strengthen economic support to families of victims of child abuse. He said, “Poverty in most parts of the country is indeed worrisome. The current economic situation in Nigeria has brought about the challenge of financial insecurity.
“Strengthening poor family’s economy can prevent child abuse and neglect by improving parent’s ability to meet their children’s basic needs.
