MANILA - Carpool platform Wunder will be shutting down its Philippine operations this week, the company announced Monday.
Wunder posted online that it decided to stop its operations in Manila "in order to focus our resources in other mobility niches."
"Our carpooling platform and our support channels will be available until 06/28," after which the app will be inaccessible, Wunder said. The company advised patrons to continue carpooling even though the Wunder app would no longer be accessible after Friday this week. Wunder came to the Philippines in 2016. Unlike ride-hailing apps Uber and Grab which functioned like taxis, Wunder matched passengers with drivers going to a particular route. Passengers then chip in for the gas to split fares.Transport regulators however said Wunder's carpooling system was unacceptable and vehicles without franchises were not allowed to charge fares from passengers.
