The deal pays Ouellet $725,000 in the NHL and $425,000 at the AHL level for the first year, and $750,000 and $425,000, respectively, the next season. He has a guaranteed salary of $475,000 in 2021-22.
Ouellet, 27, had two assists in 12 games for the Canadiens in 2019-20, while also skating in 39 contests for the AHL's Laval Rocket, where he had 24 points and led the team in power-play assist with 11. A second-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2011, the Bayonne, France native has five goals and 28 points in 172 career NHL regular-season games with the Red Wings and Canadiens.
