A pressure group, Bayelsa Development Initiative, has berated Governor Douye Diri for the continued ban on night operations of commercial tricycles, also called Keke, in Yenagoa and its environs.

A pressure group, Bayelsa Development Initiative, has berated Governor Douye Diri for the continued ban on night operations of commercial tricycles, also calledThe BDI, in a statement issued by its Secretary, Michael Rodamini, said it was insensitive and unimaginable for the governor to have allowed a restriction, which was supposed to have been a stop-gap measure, to last beyond one month.

Diri had on April 20 restricted operations of commercial tricyclists to 6pm – 7am, following a violent clash between the youths of Yenizue-Epie in the Yenagoa Local Government Area and Keke riders. But the pressure group said it was time the governor relaxed the restriction, arguing that it had negatively impacted business.

“Banning Keke at night, providing no alternative and allowing such ban to linger and pretending that all is well despite its negative effects on the people, especially in this rainy season, only emphasises the anti-people position of this government. “We are also calling on Douye Diri to immediately lift the ban to ameliorate the plight of the masses,” the group said. All rights reserved.
