Although the club cited their financial situation as the major reason behind the 34-year-old’s exit, Griezmann was one of the players they had hoped to move on this summer in order to save wages. At a point it seemed the France forward would return to Atletico Madrid, but that transfer never materialised.
As Griezmann pulled into Barca’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground, fans could be heard shouting and jeering in his direction.
