Legislators of the Niger State House of Assembly have called on the state government to wade into the security challenges facing Bassa and Allawa communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

They arrived at the resolution during plenary following the matter of urgent public importance raised by the Minority Leader of the Assembly, Andrew Doma, who represents Shiroro Constituency in the House of Assembly. Doma told his colleagues how a few weeks ago, a large number of bandits had invaded Bassa, Allawa and other adjoining villages. He narrated that during the raid, the gunmen brutally killed and maimed children and women in the affected communities.

Lamenting the situation, the lawmaker said: 'The situation is so pathetic that at this moment, many persons in the communities cannot be accounted for. They were said to have been kidnapped by the bandits.' Against this background, Doma appealed to the Niger State Government to, as a matter of urgency, constitute a security strategy to forestall future occurrences, adding that the gunmen, had, after the attack, threatened to return to the area.
