Mr Enang, former senator and APC member, discusses the PDP's candidate selection for the 2027 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State and the impact of Governor Eno's interactions with the opposition party.

Mr Enang, a former senator and member of Nigeria 's ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC ), addressed the adoption of Governor Umo Eno as the sole candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State. According to Mr Enang, the PDP 's decision is an internal matter and does not concern the APC .

He emphasized that the APC remains a vibrant force in the state despite Governor Eno's cordial relationship with members of the opposition party. Mr Enang, who previously served as a member of the PDP for three terms in the House of Representatives and one term in the Senate before defecting to the APC, dismissed concerns about the PDP's choice of candidate. He stated that the PDP's internal affairs, including their ongoing leadership crisis, are not within the purview of the APC. He also alluded to the PDP's history of limited democratic space within the party. His comments came amidst speculation about the APC's future in Akwa Ibom State, particularly following Governor Eno's attendance at events organized by APC leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo. Mr Enang, however, asserted that the APC's performance in the 2023 governorship election, where they secured the third largest number of votes, was hampered by internal disputes over the party's candidate. He expressed confidence in the APC's future prospects in the state, stating that they have strategies in place to ensure success in the 2027 election
