Nigerian badminton star Anuoluwapo Opeyori aims for another gold medal at the 2025 All-African Senior Badminton Championship after winning four at the recent All-African Championship.
Anuoluwapo Opeyori, Nigeria's top badminton player, has clinched four gold medals in the men's singles event at the All-African Badminton Championship. This remarkable feat sets the stage for Opeyori to pursue his fifth continental gold medal at the 2025 All-African Senior Badminton Championship, slated to be held in Douala, Cameroon. The 27-year-old athlete will be defending his title in the men's singles category, aiming to solidify his dominance on the African badminton scene.
Opeyori previously led Team Nigeria as their captain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, despite his impressive ranking as the African number one badminton player, he fell short of securing a medal at the Games. Undeterred, Opeyori is now focused on showcasing his skills at the upcoming All-African championship. He will be joined by nine other Nigerian players, comprising five men and five women, who will compete across a range of categories, including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The Nigerian badminton team's preparation for the championship received a boost with a visit from Bukola Olopade, the director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC). Olopade expressed unwavering support for the players and urged them to make Nigeria proud at the continental competition
