The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rescheduled the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025. The decision, made to allow host countries Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda more time to complete necessary facilities, was influenced by advice from CAF's technical and infrastructure experts. Despite challenges, CAF president Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the host nations' ability to deliver the required infrastructure by the new date.
January 14, 2025 5:57 pm CAF has postponed the forthcoming African Nations Championship to August 2025.on Tuesday, the African football governing body said the rescheduling gives the host countries time to complete the necessary facilities for the competition.
The eighth edition of CHAN was initially billed to be held in February and co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. CAF added that the postponement was informed by advice from its “technical and Infrastructure experts” in the countries.However, Patrice Motsepe, CAF president, said he is “impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities” for the competition despite the challenges.
He expressed his confidence that the countries will wrap up the work before the new date for the competition. “I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda,” Motsepe said.“I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities will be at the requisite CAF standards for hosting, in August 2025, a very successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.”3-1 on aggregate to qualify.
