The 37-year-old Ovechkin has gone scoreless in the club’s last three games, including a 4-3 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. Howe’s sons, Mark and Marty, who both had long hockey careers, were in the house in Washington to try to witness the moment. The good news is the Senators are expecting a huge crowd with the holidays just around the corner so the atmosphere should be great. The club is coming off a 5-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday on the road and needs to get back on track.
The Senators went into Wednesday night’s action eight points back of the final wildcard spot in the East. The club also has five teams it has to leapfrog over, including the Capitals, to try to get back into the race so it’s hardly going to be an easy climb.Article content
