Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a former member of the PDP, stated his belief that the APC will win four states in the South-South region during the 2027 general elections. He cited his move to the APC as a strategic effort to gain national representation and influence for the South-South.
The Nigeria n Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC ) would take over the four key states in the South South region in the 2027 general elections. Akpabio said this while receiving the newly elected governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital over the weekend. He described Okpebholo's victory at the concluded September 21 off-season election was completely ordained by God.
The Senate President, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party said that his major reason for joining the APC is to deliver the six states of the South-South to the ruling party. The PDP is in charge of four out of the six states in the geo-political region while the APC is in charge of two - Edo and Cross River States. However, Akpabio said, “Under the APC administration, many of us decided there was need for us to change the political basket to enable us to represent our people at the national level and also have a say in what was going on in the country. “So, when I made that strong movement to the APC, it was to move our people in the South South region to the centre,” Akpabio said. He added that with the present permutation, the APC is set to win more states of the South South in the next election
