The International Air Transport Association has asked African governments to unblock bottlenecks ailing air transport and tourism by providing urgently needed financial relief to bail out affected bus
inesses in the sector.
IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Muhammad Albakri, called on the governments to act fast and save the industry. Albakri called for the harmonised adoption of the International Civil Aviation Organization Take-Off guidance which outlines recommended biosafety measures. The IATA noted that though Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal and Tanzania announced the imminent resumption of scheduled international passenger flights, they only account for 19 per cent of passenger traffic on the continent.
