Clearing agents have protested against Grimaldi Shipping Company’s plans to charge N25,000 for Personal Identification Number release.
The Deputy President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, Ugochukwu Nnadi, who is in charge of shipping and terminal services, said, “Before this time, PIN release charge was less than N10,000; now they are raising it to N25,000. Why will shipping companies ask such a person to pay so much money?
According to Nnadi, shipping companies do not have the right to charge for PIN release before releasing cargo. Meanwhile, in his response, a staff with Mediterranean Shipping Company, who does not want his name in print said, “That is documentation cost and we charge between N7,000 and N10,000.
