Medical doctors in Abia State, yesterday, staged a protest in Umuahia, the state capital, as they marched to the Government House to demand their 24 months salary arrears, which they claimed the state government owed medical and non-medical staff of Abia State University Teaching Hospital Aba (ABSUTH).

They also demanded payment of the 13 months arrears owed doctors and other staff of the State Health Management Board.

They began their protest from the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where they converged, chanting solidarity songs as they marched, carrying placards with different inscriptions, “Doctors lives matter”; “Our salary is our entitlement”; “Two years without salary ‘no be jokes’”; “ Man’s inhumanity to man,” among others.

Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association , Dr. Isaiah Abali, who led the protest, said that doctors in the employment of the state government are passing through hard times, following months of unpaid wages.
