A family is battling to cope with the consequences of a hit-and-run accident involving a bus belonging to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). They are seeking justice and financial assistance for their son, who remains severely injured.

Sunday Nwafor, the uncle of Emmanuel Anuoluwapo Nwafor, recounts the harrowing ordeal his family has endured since Emmanuel was hit by a bus owned by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority ( LAMATA ). On February 16, 2025, Emmanuel's friend alerted Sunday to his missing status after multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach him. After filing a missing person report with the Area G Police Station, Sunday began searching hospitals in the Ifako and Ile-Epo areas.

Thankfully, Emmanuel was found at Orile Agege General Hospital the next day, but his condition was critical. He was in a coma, unresponsive, with only one drip administered. \Sunday and his family quickly realized the hospital lacked the resources to properly care for Emmanuel and transferred him to the prestigious Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. However, their relief was short-lived. The daily hospital bill, ranging from N350,000 to N400,000, quickly piled up, straining their financial resources. Complicating matters further, the police initially informed Sunday that the case was dropped, despite their efforts to seek justice for Emmanuel. \LAMATA representatives, while occasionally visiting Emmanuel and expressing sympathy, failed to offer adequate support or compensation. Despite numerous letters sent to relevant authorities, including the Lagos State Governor's Office and the Commissioner for Health's office, the lack of response was disheartening. Finally, after Emmanuel regained consciousness and could communicate, LAMATA offered a meager N3 million for all expenses, a sum far below the estimated N13 million hospital bill (excluding medication costs) already incurred by the family. As Emmanuel continues to recover, the family tirelessly advocates for his well-being, navigating the complexities of the legal system and the limitations of inadequate support
