The Imo State Government has set up a task force to go against touting and illegal collection of levies by unauthorized persons, especially within the State Capital Owerri, and other major towns in the state.

In a press statement from the office of the secretary of the State Government, Cosmas Iwu, only the Imo State Internal Revenue Service is authorized to collect approved levies from those concerned. Iwu in the statement said the IRS officers have been counselled to always be civil in the execution of their lawful duties, warning that Governor Hope Uzodinma has approved the ban on touting and the collection of illegal levies in the state, henceforth.

'All government agencies involved in collection of levies in whatever form should liaise with the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, while those charged with the job of the control of traffic should concentrate on their duties and refrain from the extortion of motorists' he stated. The statement went further to inform that anyone who flouts the directive will be dealt with by the dictates of the law.
