Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that he threatened northerners over the 2027 presidential election. The Office of the President of the Senate has dismissed claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio threatened northerners over the 2027 presidential election . According to the Senate President ’s office, the claim was deliberately fabricated to create tension and mislead Nigeria ns ahead of the political activities leading to 2027.

Jibril Tafida, the Senate President's Special Adviser on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, issued the statement. In the statement, the Senate President denied ever making such remarks and called on security agencies to investigate and arrest the individual featured in the circulating video. The Senate President's office also condemned repeated insults and disrespectful comments directed at Akpabio and other public officials.

The statement further accused Garus Gololo of constantly attacking President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress for political reasons and urged Nigerians to ignore the allegation and avoid statements capable of creating ethnic or political tension across the country
