Former Rangers star Ally McCoist argues that Arsenal's lack of a dedicated goalscorer will prevent them from winning the Premier League title. He criticizes Kai Havertz's performance in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, suggesting that Arsenal needs a player capable of scoring 25 goals a season.
Former Rangers star Ally McCoist believes Arsenal 's pursuit of the Premier League title hinges on signing a prolific goalscorer who can consistently deliver 24 goals per season. McCoist's assessment follows Kai Havertz 's underwhelming performance in Arsenal 's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
Havertz, despite featuring prominently, failed to find the net and squandered several scoring opportunities as Manchester United, playing with 10 men for a significant portion of the match, knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup third round. The Red Devils secured a 5-3 penalty shootout victory after a 1-1 draw stretched to 120 minutes. Havertz's penalty miss in the shootout proved costly for Arsenal.'It's come back to bite them that they don't have an out-and-out goalscorer on the team,' McCoist stated on talkSPORT. 'Kai Havertz, I think he's a very good player, I really do, and I have liked him for a long time. I think he's a very intelligent player, but an out-and-out centre-forward, he is not. He can play the position as a kind of stop gap if you're really struggling, he can play a false-10 or a false-nine however you want to call it. He can do that but not long term. I just believe that to win the league you've got to have somebody that's going to get you 25 goals a season.' Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea for a hefty £65 million in 2023. Despite being Arsenal's leading scorer this season with 12 goals, he has yet to demonstrate the clinical finishing required to consistently lead their attack
