Adeniyi Olugbemi and Kayode Idowu The Zamfara State Council of Chiefs again on Sunday berated the Nigerian Air Force over the bombing of innocent villagers in the state.
The Emir of Bungudu and spokesman for the traditional rulers, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, restated the position of council that NAF “concocted names and figure” of neutralised bandits
“Reports from Mutu in the Tsafe Local Government Area, Tangaram in the Anka Local Government Area and Dumburum in the Zurmi Local Government Area, among others, are that the areas shelled were not the actual hideouts of the bandits and the victims were innocent civilians.” “We stand by our statement. It was the complaint from our people. Whether we can provide evidence or not, it is a matter of time.
“If they can review and adopt new tactics, one month is enough for them to restore normalcy in a situation they have been on for almost one and a half years. The governor stated this at a meeting in Gusau with the Force Commander of the Operation Sharan Daji, Maj. Gen. Hakeem Otiki. It was learnt that the ATF dispatched one Mi-35 helicopter gunship, supported by an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform, to attack the location, during which the bandits started shooting at the Air force helicopter.
“NAF, working in consonance with surface forces and other security agencies, will sustain its operations to flush the bandits out of the North-West of the country.”Also, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday that it had security reports on some community leaders and their surrogates in Zamfara State, who were linked to the bandits.
On Sunday, the defence minister, through his PRO, Col. Gusau, in a statement sent to our one of correspondents, said the minister, rather than accusing the traditional rulers only gave a warning going by some security reports available to his ministry.
