The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command says the use of firecrackers, knockouts and other fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations season remains banned across the territory.
The ban, according to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh 'is implemented to ensure the safety of all residents and to protect lives and property throughout the festive season'.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu emphasized that the use of the items could 'lead to unnecessary panic and anxiety' within communities in the capital city. The PPRO also said that the items present significant risks, including fire hazards and other preventable incidents in communities. She vowed that violators, including sellers and users of 'firecrackers and fireworks, will be subject to arrest and prosecution under the law.
