There was pandemonium at Obi Ugbe, Idumugbe Village, Umuonaje Quarters Asaba, Delta State, yesterday, as the state government allegedly demolished over 45 houses, including uncompleted buildings and other property
Youths and land-owners were seen lamenting, as Ministry of Lands’ officials invaded the place with fierce-looking security personnel and eight bulldozers to demolish the houses.
They all lamented the government’s actions and vowed to resist what they described as “insensitive and oppression of the highest order”. Umunna said the community belonged to them and as such “we will not let go of the land because we have two Supreme Court judgments on this land: first in 1970 and the second in 1978”.
“We have given the government the airport, the Delta Development Property Agency , the immigration office, civil defence lands known as Akwu-Ulo”
