The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the newly sworn-in Governor of the state, Monday Okpebholo of violating the Public Procurement Act in the award of a contract for the construction of a flyover bridge in the state.
DAILY POST reports that the State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who was sworn in as the governor of the state on November 12, 2024, had on Tuesday, November 19, flagged off the construction of the first flyover bridge in the state. Reacting to the award of the construction of the flyover bridge, the Publicity Secretary of the state's PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Nehikhare opined that the spending of monies without approval by the House of Assembly was an impeachable offence.
He called on the governor to make public the procurement procedure for the construction of the flyover bridge, saying that spending money without appropriation is an impeachable offence. According to him, the people of the state demand and deserve transparency and clarity on the cost of the project and timeline, how the contractors were selected and whether the process complied with the State’s Public Procurement Act, among other details relating to the project.
