Guterres stated this in a video message to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the conflict, which claimed millions of lives. “We must never forget the Holocaust and the other grave and horrendous crimes committed by the Nazis.According to him, the creation of the UN is based on an “appreciation for international solidarity and our shared humanity”.In a similar message, the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary di Carlo, said “disturbing echoes of the past” were still playing out in today’s world.
