Adedamola Odejobi is a wonder to behold with the ball. For an avid football follower, it takes just seconds to identify this silky jewel among his teammates at the Bora Football Academy at Pako field, Dopemu, Lagos. Our correspondent approached the 13-year-old on bright Saturday morning at Pako after he had dazzled his teammates and clapping fans alike.
“I want to be a great player like Lionel Messi, though my favourite club is Manchester United in England,” Odejobi said. He lives with his grandparents, who he said have been supportive in his quest to become a professional footballer. “My grandparents support me playing football, but they want me to study harder and they pay for extramural classes for me.”
Damola’s coach, Adeniran Ajao, said the young defender packs strong shots for his age and as a left-footer can do virtually everything with the ball.
