A group, women in Management, Business, and Public Service, has stressed the need to have women in elective and appointed positions in the political sphere.
The group made this known in a communique issued at the end of the annual women in politics webinar held recently.“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has entrenched laws and guidelines on female participation in politics. However, implementing these laws and guidelines has been met with persistent resistance over the years.
“Specific constitutional amendments need to be implemented to ensure political equality between men and women. Similarly, specific constitutional laws on female participation within political parties which already exist, have not been enforced. “Intentionally introducing gender inclusion targets across all tiers of government will be a significant step in progresssing the goal of increased female participation in politics,” the communique reads in part.
The women in politics webinar was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of Alfo Healthcare initiave, Ms Kemi Ogunyemi, and moderated by an ex-member of the Federal House of Representatives, Nnena Ukeje.All rights reserved.
