He took his own life on the day of the 2017 State election. He was making a statement.
But Mr Deverall's attempts to argue in favour of a terminally-ill person's right to choose when and under what circumstances they die had fallen on deaf ears. It was in the too hard basket for our politicians. And so, each of the 59 MPs in the Legislative Assembly will now have their say before the Bill is passed by that chamber.But the real test of whether West Australians will soon have a choice to end their suffering will come in the Parliament's Legislative Council. The vote will be closer. The conviction held by some members to halt this law is much more resolute. They have a devout religious duty to do so.
