Why religion is dangerous for politics in Nigeria vanguardngr.com vanguardnews
And I ask: Is God a PDP? The emergence of coalition of Christian leaders in the 2019 elections, as a political wing of PDP, is dangerous. The Christian coalition has made a dangerous gamble by associating faith with the Peoples Democratic Party.
After this major event, a lot of Nigerian pastors spewed out prophecies that the incumbent will emerge as the president. Even the popular Apostle Suleman wasn’t spared from the prophecies as he instructed Nigerians and the church that God spoke to him about the incumbent’s re-election. Without doubt, the coalition has helped PDP win votes in Edo State. But the connection carries considerable risk.
The good people of Edo State should watch out for more of this coalition’s blackmail advertorials that are coming to support opposition. The coalition has been making political statements that portray them as rookies of partisan interests. It is disturbing and unfortunate that the acclaimed Christian leaders have chosen to be blackmailing government and President Buhari to the detriment of the peace-loving citizens through sponsored press statement. I want to describe the press statement by some Christian leaders in Edo state as politically motivated.
In 2015, when then incumbent president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, was seeking re-election, he took the messages of his campaign to the churches. The church leaders were majorly part of his strength for his second term bid as the Nigerian president. During that time a lot of controversies were experienced in the nation, but due to greed and pastors’ selfish interests, they ended up indoctrinating the church into politics.
