Opinion: I've declared my intention to start buying shares. I’m both nervous and excited
” will already know that a few weeks ago, I declared my intention to start buying shares.
Of these, 6.6 million Aussies are invested in assets listed on the stock exchange – that’s 35 per cent of the adult population. I’m intending to join that one in three. Ultra-low interest rates are helping to fuel the shift into shares, of course, as is the availability of newer and cheaper online brokerages. Meanwhile, rapidly escalating home prices are forcing a younger generation of investors to consider other options for building wealth.Of course, buying shares is a highly personal experience. There is no one size fits all and you should always consider your individual circumstances before taking the plunge.
Conventional wisdom has it, of course, you should always pay down your mortgage as quickly as possible to avoid interest charges. But with my mortgage interest rate soon to have “1” per cent in front, I’ve decided there must be a more lucrative option for my monthly net savings.
