The World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has said that the number of coronavirus cases in Africa has risen to over 49,000 in the past 24 hours.According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed over 1,900 people on the continent, while more than 16, 000 patients have recovered.
“Over 49,000 confirmed #COVID19 cases on the African continent – with more than 16,000 associated recoveries & 1,900 deaths,” it said. The WHO African Region COVID-19 dashboard showed that South Africa is the highest in Africa with 7,572 cases and 148 deaths, followed by Egypt with 7201 cases and 452 deaths, Morocco has 5153 cases and 180 deaths, while Algeria has 4838 cases and 470 deaths.
Meanwhile, Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria has recorded 2,950 cases and 98 deaths as of Tuesday night, according to the NCDC.
