HOUSTON — The Port of Houston is the nation's largest when measured by shipping tonnage, which is why theThe Port of Baltimore is expected to be closed for months, if not longer.
Baltimore isn't a port that sees many container vessels -- the Dali was the only container ship in port on Tuesday and seven more were scheduled to arrive through Saturday. Now, there's a scramble going on to reroute the vessels and their hundreds of containers and products."Frankly, I see the East Coast ports being beneficiaries, such as New York and New Jersey, Norfolk, Virginia, Charleston and Brunswick, Georgia. So it's it's a matter of geography," University of Houston engineering and supply chain expert Margeret Kidd said.She said she thinks costs will rise to move the cargo from the other ports to wherever their final destination is.
Experts said they don't think the supply chain fallout from the tragedy in Baltimore will be anywhere near as bad as it was during the pandemic.
