The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Friday said it was concerned about claims of drugs and vaccine for COVID-19 on social media, saying that it had not granted approval

for any remedy for the pandemic.

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, and the Director General of the Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, had said that the World Health Organisation had not come up with any cure for COVID-19. They said that despite claims of traditional remedy by people, the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development had yet to come up with a result.

She said, “The agency is concerned about reports on social and other media of drugs or vaccines to cure COVID 19. “The agency has not granted any approval to any products for use as a cure or vaccine against COVID 19. “The public is advised to comply with measures issued by the NCDC to prevent the spread of COVI-19. These include the use of face coverings/masks in addition to social distancing, washing of hands and use of alcohol-based sanitisers.”
