July 12, 2020, will etch in the memory of Oyo State-based survey technician and cleric, Mr Moses Oparemi, as the day he lost his son, Olagoke, who was a policeman.
Olagoke, a newly recruited constable, with another colleague identified as Ogunyemi Mujeed, drowned that day at Awerintu River, Oke Eletu, Oyo, Oyo State, while chasing hoodlums terrorising the area.gathered that the 27-year-old and his colleague including a vigilante were thrown by a bridge weakened by flood into a ditch while the hoodlums familiar with the terrain escaped.
“When he told us about his interest in joining the police, I wasn’t bothered because I reasoned that if the parents of the current Inspector-General of Police discouraged him, he wouldn’t be the IG today. Myself and my wife agreed though if left to her alone to take the decision, she wouldn’t allow him.
The bereaved father added that after the call ended, his wife said since their son was working in the station, they should call him to know why they wanted them to come around.
